Jackie Beltran is the product of southern West Virginia.  She and her late brother were part of the last generation of coal miners and coal miner's wives.  She treasures her unique upbringing, amongst mountains and moonshine stills, company houses and the lack of modern day 'law.'  Her daddy was a 'Union man' like his daddy before him.  She writes prolifically about her life in West Virginia and eastern Kentucky in an attempt to record a lifestyle that has all but become extinct.
